FLIGHTS
Traveling from the United States
As there are no direct flights to Santa Marta (that we know of!), flights from the US typically involve a layover. We don't know all the possible connections, but we've seen that the most common are:
- Miami, Florida
- Panama City, Panama
- Bogotá, Colombia
- Cartagena, Colombia
- MedellÃn, Colombia
The typical travel time to Colombia is 8-9 hours, with layovers. If your closest airport does not offer flights in the 8-9 hour range, we suggest flying from a different airport (e.g. fly from JFK or Newark instead of Philadelphia) or looking into flying into Barranquilla and driving to Santa Marta (2 hour drive). Please look at the Recommended Airlines & Travel Tips section for more information on driving.
No matter the layover, your destination will be the same - Simón BolÃvar International Airport.

The airport is an 8 minute drive from the venue and about 25 minutes from the city. If you decide to book at one of the accommodations below, you will also be within 10 minutes of the venue
Traveling from Europe
Those of you traveling from the other side of the world have it a little worse. We don't believe there are many flights with less than 2 stops.
Recommended Airlines & Travel Tips
The most common airlines for traveling to Colombia are American Airlines, Avianca, and Copa. Both airlines are extremely safe and have 7/7 safety ratings from AirlineRatings.
If you decide to drive to Santa Marta from Barranquilla, here are some things you should know:
- Colombia has a lot of motorcyclists
- You can book a rental car via Alamo or Enterprise. They have cars on site at the BAQ airport.
- The drive is a straight-shot once you are out of Barranquilla
- Cell/Data signal is scarce for a majority of the drive
- There are 2 tolls on the way, so make sure you have cash.
- There is typically a checkpoint where you may be pulled over by the cops. They will ask for car registration and ID. Stay calm and let them do their thing. It is usually just a quick search of your trunk.
ACCOMMODATIONS
If you are traveling with a large group and want to be together, we suggest booking an AirBnB. Most are beautiful, spacious, and much cheaper compared to an equivalent house in the States.
For smaller groups or people who prefer hotels, we have a few options listed below. If none of them are to your liking, feel free to Google for hotels in the area. There are plenty.
